Amy Horvey [[1]] was born in 1980 in Regina and grew up on a farm near Cabri, Saskatchewan. She received her BMus from the University of Victoria studying with Lou Ranger, and her 2nd Phase Diploma from the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands studying with Andre Heuvelman. Her other major teachers include Vincent Cichowicz, Andrew McCandless, and Marco Blaauw. In 2007, she participated in the Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar[[2]], where her teachers included Marcus Stockhausen, Ed Carroll, Mark Gould, Gabriel Cassone, Thomas Stevens, and Stephen Burns.

In 2004 Amy won the Jury Prize at the "Link" Music Competition in the Netherlands. Since 2005 she has worked with a number of well-known venues, presenters, and ensembles, including the Holland Festival, Vancouver Jazz Festival, Soundstreams Canada, and the Toronto-based ensemble Arraymusic; she also toured Canada with a solo program in 2006, and Northern Italy in 2008. Also active as a composer, she has created several scores for contemporary dance performances.

She has commissioned works from Marc Yeats, Cecilia Arditto, Christopher Butterfield, Isak Goldschneider, Ryan Purchase, and Daisuke Terauchi, among others, and is the holder of the 2008-2009 National Arts Centre Richard Li Young Artist Chair.
