The mission of the Basso Moderno Duo is to promote the works of living composers from all over the world by educating nontraditional audiences about contemporary music. In addition by creating a new repertoire for bass and piano from celebrated composers all over the world, they bring these works to diverse audiences, communicating beautiful, lyrical music from composers from vastly different backgrounds and experiences.

Basso Moderno aims to humanize people from different cultures. Through our new program we hope to bring a new point of view to our audiences and start a constructive dialog of understanding between the citizens of one country and those of the composers.

Dr. Allan Von Schenkel & Kristen Williams founded the Basically Modern Arts Sanctuary in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The arts sanctuary provides residencies from all over the world to composers who are seeking to compose in solitude while visiting New York. They have also created the Basso Moderno Composition Competition which is awarded annually.
