Corey Dargel (b. October 19, 1977 in McAllen, Texas) is a composer, lyricist, and singer of songs that "smartly and impishly blur the boundaries between contemporary classical idioms and pop" (New York Times). He has been called "an innovator both challenging and catchy" (Time Out New York) and "an ironic pop icon... dangerously close to commercial viability" (Village Voice).

Dargel's music has been performed at Joe's Pub, Roulette, Opia Lounge, Cornelia Street Café, Tonic, The Knitting Factory, and Galapagos. His works have been commissioned by Dance Theater Workshop (chor. Scott Heron), Sequitur, the Maine Gay Men's Chorus, flutist Margaret Lancaster, pianist Kathleen Supové, and the art song duo Two Sides Sounding. Presently, he is recording a new album, Less Famous Than You, of songs about falling in love with famous (or semi-famous) people.

Dargel is also an accomplished new music vocalist. He has performed works by Eve Beglarian, Pauline Oliveros, Brenda Hutchinson, k. terumi shorb, Phil Kline, Nicholas Brooke, and Philip Glass; and has organized multiple performances of John Cage's Songbooks featuring a variety of music and theater artists.

Dargel also creates and distributes the podcast COMPOSERS AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM, a parody of a classical music-appreciation radio show. To download the podcast (it's free) and to learn more about Corey Dargel, visit www.automaticheartbreak.com.

Dargel's music is published by Automatic Heartbreak (ASCAP) and has been recorded on the Mogul Electro label.
