La Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) is a contemporary classical music organization based in Montréal, Québec, Canada. It has been in existence since 1966 when it was founded by Montreal composers and musicians including Wilfrid Pelletier, Jean Papineau-Couture, Serge Garant and Maryvonne Kendergian. It has since played a seminal role in the development of the Quebec contemporary music scene. The SMCQ presents an annual series of concerts involving its own flexible ensemble as well as invited guests, the biennial Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques international festival of contemporary music and a youth program called SMCQ Jeunesse. 2007-08 was the inaugural season of its Série Hommage, a biennial collaborative event featuring the music of an important Québecois composer. In 2007-08, the Série Hommage featured the music of Claude Vivier. The SMCQ's artistic director since 1988 is Walter Boudreau.
