Richard Friedman

Richard Friedman (rchrd) (Jan 6, 1944, Bronx, New York) lives in Oakland, California. President of the Other Minds board of directors, he produces a weekly radio program of new and unusual music called MUSIC FROM OTHER MINDS on San Francisco NPR station KALW 91.7 FM.
He worked with Morton Subotnick, Don Buchla, and Tony Martin in the mid-'60's at NYU, later with Ann Halprin in S.F. For many years did new music programs on KPFA in Berkeley. Some of these programs are now available on the Other Minds internet archive.
His main blog is All I Know - Information, Transmission, Modulation, and Noise.
His day job is as a technical writer at Sun Microsystems since 1995. Before that, as an applications and systems programmer at NYU Courant Institute (1965-68), Lawrence Berkeley Lab (1968-82), and as a contract programmer for supercomputer applications (1982-95).
An autodidact as a composer, he played flute, baritone tuba, and double bass thru high school and college. Discovered electronic music after that.
Latest work: THREADS in 2004, and Chocolate Box in 2005 for Kate Mitchell's dance company, performed at ODC Theater in San Francisco.
Richard asserts that, as far as he knows, he is no relation to Kinky, Milton, or Ken, or the Richard Friedman known for his studies of the Kabbala and other esoterica.
