Timothy Lake's Composer Page
The composer is a 28 year old who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1978 and has resided in the Greater Dayton Area since 1991. He began studying flute at West Chester University in 1989. He attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 1996 to 1997, studying jazz piano with Donald Brown and Jerry Coker, but returned home due to severe health problems. Up until the present time he has studied both classical and jazz piano with a few teachers, and has studied composition indepedently. He has knowledge of serial and twelve tone composition, some basic classical background, and knowledge of jazz harmony and accompaniment.
His major works consist of jazz compositions written for jazz quartet. His work combines elements of classical and jazz music. His two main influences are Ornette Coleman and Bela Bartok, but he is also interested in the works of Bach, Berg, Scarlatti, Schoenberg and Schubert. His work is still immature, and he continues to study music, hoping to receive an Associate's Degree in Mathematics from Sinclair Community College before attending the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music for a Certification of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance, Saxophone.
